H. May (they / them) is a Professor of Theatre at Hobart and William Smith (HWS), a stage management member of Actors' Equity Association, and a Full member of the Stage Directors and Choreographers Society. May has been a resident artist at Indy Convergence (2019) and a participant in La MaMa Umbria International Directors Symposium (2014, 2017), Dell’Arte International Summer Intensive (2015), Pig Iron Theatre’s Something from Nothing workshop (2018), and Directors Labs North (2015) and West (2014, 2017). May’s directing credits for HWS include new plays like Liz Mangan's Icarus and Amelia Earhart Had Tea this Morning, a developmental production of Caridad Svich's Memories of Overdevelopment, and a commissioned adaptation of The Duchess of Malfi by Joanie Drago entitled Duchess - as well as canonical works such as Antigone, Lysistrata, and Waiting for Godot. May has a background in devising, founding Auburn University's Mosaic Theatre Company (Artistic Director 2012-2013) and HWS's Mosaic NY (Artistic Director 2014-2019), and co-creating Fault Lines, Tone a Blind Eye, and #TheBallantineDays with students. May’s performance work includes a livestream solo performance Awaiting Tiresias and a short film by the same name. May is trained in intimacy choreography through Theatrical Intimacy Education and in audio description through the Audio Description Institute and Dark Room Ballet.
