Kerry Kijewski

My name is Kerry (she/her) and I was born, in Canada, with low vision which has decreased over time. I am now nearly completely blind, but have experience with multiple levels of visual impairment. I went from wearing glasses, reading large print, and loving colours to having to adapt with the circumstances, having experience with both guide dog and white cane, blindness resulting in my discovery of the written word and audio when I could no longer see the colours that once filled my world. I am a writer, podcaster who loves audio storytelling and does a radio show/podcast with my also blind brother called Outlook On Radio Western, and an artist who considers myself an artivist, believing in the power of art for social change. I work as a sensitivity/authenticity reader, consultant and audio description specialist and in my work within the diversity, equity, inclusion space I am an advocate for braille literacy, love the ocean and travel in a multi sensory capacity, and live with both visible disability and invisible chronic illness. Most of all, I am a big believer in examining the wide range of human perspective and experience we all share as human beings. I believe most of all in connection and collaboration, having passion and an openness and curiosity for life along with having compassion for others in the work that I do is super important for me.
